August (so far) Makings
Hi All. It’s been one of those months where I have been juggling a lot but my hands have also been getting on with my Wanna Make 2014 List.
Above is a mat for a friend’s birthday.
These oven gloves and bag dispenser went to my widowed uncle for his birthday.
This mini tea wallet was a little cheery gift for a friend.
She had chosen these fabrics before so I knew she would like it.
I made a wall organiser for myself to fit the sewing machine wire hanger and all those bits which accumulate on the cutting table.
It goes with the other wire sewing machine which has Nancy Halvorsen’s organiser on which I made back in 2010.
I finished another couple of ideas out of my head.
Nest- Marimekko fabric from Finland as a back.
It’s non identical twin is Hive.
Detail of Hive.
A large tea wallet- my first Christmas make.
Back. Inside is plain yellow.
My little hound Squeak’s collar was looking tatty with silk threads hanging off it.
The silver metalwork was still good so I canabalised it.
Kaffe Fassett’s Roman Glass fabric in pink. Love that fabric design.
I think it suits her.
All 12 stitcheries for Lynette Anderson’s Full Bloom mini quilt have been sewn.
I chose 12 different plain fabrics for them to be sewn onto.
As for me gardens are colourful places.
I had a fabric width of parrot fabric left over from the dining room curtains to it went at the top and bottom of the main border.
I had a long thin strip of frogs left over from another quilt which was perfect for the sides.
They looked together so hey presto!
I do like it when a plan works out. Unfortunately Squeak’s new bed “Pink Bones on Wicker” didn’t go quite as smoothly.
Looks more like “Pink Trellis” to me.
Close up you can see the shapes are like bones I should’ve made them in different shades of pink I think.
Hubby put Montalbano on TV so I couldn’t do anything complicated with my hands as I needed to read the Italian subtitles.
My solution was to come up with a bag idea in crochet cotton.
Vintage button.
I came up with a double lining so no frayed edges anywhere made out of an old sheet.
Zip fastening as well as the flap, so it is a secure bag.
Another cotton face cloth with a hanging loop-a future birthday present.
A friend saw the little elephant tea wallet so I made her one of her own.
Inside was inspired by the colours on the front.
It’s that time of year when I’m needing a new journal, so this one is ready for Autumn.
It was good to use some of the scraps from the “Hamper of Sin.”
Why is it that no matter how much I use, the quantity never goes down?
I also made the Winter one for all my Christmas plotting and scheming.
The trees are machine appliqued on from an odd charm.
The fabric has a natural slub which catches the light and is a beautiful colour.
Lastly the Zombie Quilt is done. I used a design from “Some Kind of Wonderful”
but the black corners of the big squares have got a bit lost in the busyness of the fabric.
There is plenty of good advice on it for what to do in a Zombie Apocalypse. I think the recipient will laugh.
So that is all for this month so far. There are far too many wips which need hand work but I will plod along.
My saying for the week:
“Find something to love and to make you laugh- something that will keep you in the here and now. Hounds are good at it.” Kevin Hearne “Shattered” p 251 (Iron Druid 7).
