Flowers, seeds, more birthday, makings

In thegarden the flowering currant is out more
The wonderful smell of hyacinth
and my garden primroses.

Daughter made these wonderful habitats for bees and insects from bundles of bamboo. You tie them in a place that gets the morning sun near to your flowers. Lovely idea.
I’ve sown a few seeds now it’s warmer- Helichrysum- straw flowers so I can compare notes with Annie in Ballarat in Australia
Ornamental gourd. I want to see what interesting shapes it will turn into and whether I can craft with some.
Gazania and Californian Poppy. I hope some of this riot of colour germinate. 🙂
A wonderful package arrived from Eileen of Eileen’s Attic. Such pretty paper with birdhouses on.
Inside was gorgeous smelling coffee, fabric galore in wonderful colours, bag patterns, cookie cutters the shape of a coffee pot, tea pot and a cup and saucer (fabulous and unusual) chocolates and maple sugar creations, and a whole family of bunnies. 🙂 The mother has been called Maisie, and the 3 little ones are named after a trio of girls I nannied for- Henny, Taddy and Flosie. Thank you so much Eileen for all your thoughtfulness and for sharing your marvellous creations.

The bunnies are now in the basket with their English cousins. Anything could happen. 🙂 LOL
A beautiful parcel arrived from Anne Marie of Anne Marie’s Quilt -beautiful fabric, a thimble showing a Viking boat, and a gorgeous view of a Norwegian fjord. Thank you so much Anne Marie. It was so lovely of you to share a little of Norway with me for my birthday.

Now you are probably wondering in the midst of all this Spring madness if this is a craft blog at all. So off we go to the craft room:
I finished all the stitcheries with changed colours to match the Fabulous Fall fabric by Moda whcih I chose, and added borders to the ones which had them.
The others are all cut to size and will be sewn onto their blocks at each monthly class as I’m making this quilt as a BOM.
Block A and B are all sewn, but I am going to put a couple of hearts on the big cream rectangle as it looks bare. This is a huge tick on my To Do List as I only need to show up to classes now. It frees up[ my evenings for other hand sewing. 🙂
I finished this block for the Christmas BOM in Perle 5. No buttons though.
I’ve been getting on with daughter’s prom dress for the beginning of May. I hate leaving things until the last minute. Above is a pic of the boning. 3/4″ boning put into a seam stitched at 1.5cm and at 1.3cm so it goes completely into the seam allowance. This wasmy 1st time with boning.
I put pleats into each of the 4 sections of skirt and sewed them together.
The back is now sewn to the front of the top part of the dress. The other side is open for a zip fastening.
The petticoat /underskirt needed to be darted. Since then I have wrestled with lots of net to sew to it. So that is the prom dress progress.
Now this has arrived I can share a secret making.
Some details
Buttons to strengthen the handles.
Hearts and flowery fabric for Spring.
Ok I’ve finished teasing- a bag I had wanted to make for a special friend to bring Spring a little closer. I did the same on both sides and lined it in the dark green with pale blue floral pockets.

So that is all my makings up to date now. I’ll be over soon to see what you are all making. 🙂
