Makings and reading.
A Leanne’s House wallhanging “Above my home there sits a dove and in that home dwell those I love.” Click to read. Stem stitch, back stitch and satin stitch for the embroidery part. Applique was needle turned. Recognise the border, binding and tabs Anne Marie?
Rainy Day Bag made from a charm pack called Rainy Days which I love. I added grey details. Quilted base and quilt as you go sides and handles.
Appliqued centre panel to front based on the umbrellas in the fabric.
5″ charms to the rear.
Handles lined in the same fabric as the inside. Pocket detail. Great shopping bag.
At last a photo of the missing hat!
This was one of the Christmas reads. It is the letters J.R.R. Tolkien wrote to his 4 children from Father Christmas so includes some details of his family life and the war years in Oxford.
While back home I decided to see the 2 houses mentioned in the well illustrated (by Tolkien) book. This is 20 Northmoor road where Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings.
He lived here from 1930-47.
The blue plaque commemorates this. The interior isn’t allowed to be changed.
Just next door is 22 Northmoor Road where the Tolkien family lived before moving into the old Blackwell (publishers) house.
As you can see it is a smaller property which is why the Tolkiens moved in 1930.
Both are now private houses so not open to the public but it was so lovely to imagine the Tolkien children receiving the imaginative and illustrated letters from Father Christmas and Polar Bear and hearing of the adventures at the North Pole just behind those bricks.
