Coldtonguecoldhamcoldbeef

My birthday picnic was deferred due to snow. (Yep the rotton softies!) The day after was dentist check ups so it wasn’t until yesterday we finally managed to go. I finally unpacked this hamper of books and re-packed it with all sorts. As they say in “Wind in the Willows” when Ratty makes a picnic:
“What’s inside it?” asked the Mole, wriggling with curiosity.
“There’s cold chicken inside it,” replied the Rat briefly; “coldtonguecoldhamcoldbeefpickledgherkinsaladfrenchrollscresssandwichespottedmeat-

“O stop, stop,” cried the Mole in ecstasies: “This is too much!”
“Do you really think so ?” inquired the Rat seriously. “It’s only what I always take on these little excursions; and the other animals are always telling me that I’m a mean beast and cut it very fine!”

We went inland to the Rover Darwen in Lancashire.
This dead tree reminded me of dancing figures.
The River Darwen.

Waterfall by the gorge.

Amazing how the rocks had shapes cut in them from the water.
The gorge and railway bridge high above.
Us under the railway bridge.

It was wonderfully muddy but I had spare boots with me so afterwards I went to a shop called “The Bubble Patch” in Oswaldthwistle Mills which is relocating after this weekend to Oldham near Manchester. The shop had some Laurel Burch fabrics which are hard to get, (Mythical Horses and Ocean Songs) so of course I bought some for future projects, and a couple of Laurel Burch elephant buttons.

I have a plan! It involves using some of the royal blue felt I found in a charity shop (for a silly cheap price) as a bag with details in other blues. I also have another plan for 3d bird houses, but spent today tidying the house for yet another sleepover and homework project comittee meeting, before being free do pop into town to buy wadding and browse the latest art exhibition and charity shops.

Tomorrow I’m making a wall hanging at Patched Pumpkin. Will post pics. Children go back to school on Monday. Normal crafting will resume. 🙂
